Dr. Bissen-Miyajima is Director and Professor of Ophthalmology at Tokyo Dental College, Suidobashi Hospital, Tokyo, Japan. She graduated from Keio University School of Medicine and completed three years of fellowship training at the University Hospital of Bonn in Germany. She specializes in cataract and refractive surgery, and received various video and paper awards at the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS) and the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (ESCRS). In addition to having numerous peer-reviewed articles published, she has written books on LASIK, Multifocal IOL, Toric IOL, which have become standard textbooks in Japan. She served as the president for the Japanese Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (JSCRS), Asia-Pacific Association of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (APACRS), and International Intraocular Implant Club (IIIC). She started LASIK, presbyopia correcting IOLs, and femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery (FLACS) in their initial stages, and contributed to their development.
Dr. Bissen-Miyajima holds membership in many professional medical societies and is a regular reviewer for several medical journals as well as holding the position of Chairperson of the Editorial Board for Ocular Surgery News (Japanese edition).
